3. Under these circumstances I would ask that Mr Chamberlain be requested to make a search among the papers of the Lord Chief Justice's Court, to see if the correspondence in question may still be found.

According to Mr Ladds' own account his ability to stay in Hongkong even for the next cool season is dependent on the chance of being well enough to travel by the expiration of his leave in November; and it is evident from Mr H. Blake's despatch No. 13028, from the 2nd para. that he intends to work in Hongkong. Mr Ladds is habitually unwell, and in point of health unfit for full work.
Therefore I do not think it unreasonable to request time to submit further particulars at the first opportunity.
There is further paper as to claims listed by Mr Ladds to professional qualifications - but I have not yet got hold of it. Meanwhile the letter...
